my parents spoil me too much...I love them

Friday, October 2, 2009

So ends week 2 of class? Already I feel exhausted and kind of down. Maybe it's the weather. I guess I'll give an overview of each class.

2D art. I thought it was going to be drawing, but it is actually design. It will incorporate some drawing but mostly design. I'm excited about that, this will help me with my creativity and ideas.

3D art. I like this class a lot. It is all sculpture which I like a lot. Right now, We are making organic shapes with wire framing This wire is tough, I have to bend it with pliers and it always makes my hands sore the next morning.

Hebrew. This class is intense. There is so much history and background to remember. Basically in this class we are covering parts of the Old Testament through a historic lens. We have quizzes each class and we have to memorize verses over the weekend. We also have HW every class -_-

I have a feeling the art classes are going to take up most of my time while the Hebrew class will be the most difficult. We shall see.

Moving along. As for photography. My goal this year is to start understanding light and how it is involved in photography. I spend hours on photo websites reading on techniques on lighting and how light works. It's tedious but I feel like I'm getting somewhere. Website wise, I'm in a funk. I need to hire someone to design it but I don't have money to pay for it, so for now, it's not going to be happen

I have been shooting pictures at bento lately focusing on off camera flash and finding creative ways to shoot. It's fun because you get a variety of characters there. You don't have to to ask people to model.

I also have been focusing on the DJ's because they always like pictures, most of them will cooperate with you and give you great shots, like this one!

I was able to shoot Jake DJ-ing at this event hosted by Clinique.

Finally, I will be shooting a wedding in two weeks in Cincinnati of my friend Elizabeth! It's going to be really fun!

Overall, I feel like my photography is getting better, and I am starting to understand. There is still so much I have to learn and I'm so excited for this year.

College group is good. The older guys small group is doing this thing where we do devotions together through fb. We all have to show that we did our devotions by submitting something about it, otherwise we have to all pay $1 that will go towards a charity or something like that.

Worship stuff: Apparently i'm overseeing a lot of things now, I'm doing worship every single week whether it's at children's service or at english. It's kind of stressful, but I enjoy it. I love leading worship.

It's been a crazy couple of weeks. Chris and I finally moved in to our apartment. We have mostly everything moved in except appliances. School is about to start. I have to buy a whole lot of art supplies to purchase and it kind of sucks. I'm taking hebrew 370 this quarter. It's a study of the Hebrew Bible..should be interesting.

Last Sunday, the college group leaders met. It was a good meeting with a lot of planning. This is going to be an interesting year. With winter retreat coming up, I feel like I'm going to be very very very busy quarter. It's a good thing I didn't continue my assistant photo editor job. I'm really excited for the church. It's changing and maturing and growing.

Winter Retreat is coming up and right now, the worship teams are coming together. We just had our a nice planning meeting last week. and I'm in the proccess of choosing songs for this winter. It's really exciting.

Well, that's about it.

Woke up and went with my brother to go to worship practice, came home and celebrated my b-day with my family. They bought me a ichiban cake! It was good! Then, I went and took a nap for like 3 hours. Anna, Jacqueline, and Daniel came over and woke me up to borrow a bike. Then I got ready for dinner!

Dinner was at J Alexander's which was really good. I got prime rib which was delicious. Too top it off, our waitress was really cool and awesome. I got a free drink. Deren paid for my dinner!

After that we went back to Chris' house and watched the USC vs. OSU game. Although they lost, it was ok, I had a fun time. Gifts this year was really random, like a popcorn maker?! haha, it's really really random. I didn't really expect much, it was more of enjoying the company of my good friends like Chris, Norman, Shing, Josh, Jacqueline, Anna. My inner core group of friends. One last get together before we all have school. It was good. And also this was my last time hanging out with Anna for a couple of months.

Sunday was wake up early to get to church to prepare for Sunday worship. We tried our new set which was, Deren and I on acoustic guitars, Bernard on electric, Esther on piano, and Elean on Vox. It was rather successful. I enjoyed worship a lot. Went to lunch at Olive Garden with Shing, Johnny, Max and Chris. It was good just hanging with the guys, no girls. Sunday night was tennis at OSU. I'm really starting to get the hang of it. It's starting to be fun.

Now, I'm just enjoying a sandwich and a rolling rock, relishing the fact that I don't have school tomorrow. Life is good. I'll start blogging more regularly once school starts.

So I finally got my phone from ebay. It took awhile to get here, but it's working and I'm happy with it. Since I got it, I decided to do a little product shot with it...so here it is. First time doing it...I think I did ok, but there are a lot of things I need to improve on though.

Monday, August 24, 2009

I haven't been able to go to sleep well lately, every time it get's late, my mind starts to wander around the subjects that "bother" me. It involves a lot of planning....about my future? It's weird. I start envisioning how things will be with my job, or whatever I am going to do. Is that weird?

my iphone is dead -_-

So that means, it's time for me to get a new phone. I think I'm going to get the blackberry bold. buy it off of ebay....

And hopefully I'll have enough money for my 50mm 1.4

i've been in a photo rut. I haven't picked up my camera for over a week now....this is bad...very bad.

This summer has gone by so quickly. Already people are starting to get ready for school and moving. Anyways, I still have little over a month before school starts and I'm going to spend it relaxing and hanging out with my favorite people. Oh yeah...my 21st birthday is coming up. Exciting.

No picture with this blog post...as I said, I have not picked up a camera in over a week....crap.

We have one more week left before we head our separate ways/vacation. This has been an eye opening experience. I feel like I have gotten closer to everyone. We have had our frustrated moments but that is going to happen. I feel like norman and isaac are now my brothers, and we can confide in each other. I feel a little bit more confident in my chinese even though I need to work on my vocabulary.

Like I said before, we have one week left. It consists of street evangelism in the morning and VBS in the afternoon. Yesterday we went to a stream of praise concert. They were so legit. I would even say as legit as Hillsong. You can't compare the two because they are different styles of worship reaching out to a different styles of people.

I haven't been sleeping well the last couple of days, I always wake up super groggy and tired and sore. I guess I need to pray against that

Other than that. I'm almost ready to be done with this trip and get home to my computer and bed that isn't a floor.

It’s the second day and I’m already attached. There is this girl in my class that is named Joline and she is basically awesome. She is one of the smartest kids in the class and she knows all the answers but she is soft spoken. We (Isaac, Jacqueline and I) are very fond of her. So Jacqueline will ask questions for the class and she’ll answer the question softly to herself, but when we ask her to say it out loud she’ll shake her head no and put her book to her face. I hate to say it, but it’s kind of cute. She’s so smart.
Today I asked her in my limited Chinese if she was a Christian and she answered no. I left it at that, because I know that I wouldn’t be able to continue the conversation with my limited knowledge of Chinese.
After class was over, I found out that she has three other siblings, two sisters and a brother. She is the oldest of them all, and she’s only 10! They all take care and look out for each other. Their parents own a mantou shop. (their mantou is pretty legit.) Anyways, all of them are really smart and they know their material.
Tonight I had such a strong desire to pray for that family. I have never experienced this things before. I want them to know who Jesus is. I want them to grow up knowing God and his love. They are so smart but it’s nothing if they don’t know God. My feel like my heart aches for them.
It’s weird, when I go to Haiti and go to the orphanages or meet the street kids. I latch myself to a kid and spoil them like crazy for the duration, but when it’s time to leave, I don’t really feel that ache like I did today. I don’t know if it’s the language barrier or what. Maybe it’s because I know the kids in the orphanages will get taken care of because it’s a Christian orphanages and we are doing VBS there. Here it is different. Most of these kids don’t know who Jesus is. Who’s going to teach them about God once we leave? They don’t go to church here. I feel so inadequately equipped. I wish I could just tell her about who Jesus is. She’s so smart, and I know that she will go far in life. (now I’m just ranting).
Anyways, I know the best thing I can do is pray pray pray and trust God but for me it's hard.
It’s interesting what one little girl can do to you.

I’ve been in Taiwan for 2 days now…and to my surprise it’s not bad. People kept telling me this and that, how hot it was going to be, etc. But I don’t think they remember that I’ve been under these conditions before many many times.
I hate comparing Haiti to Taiwan, but I guess I kind of want to. Mind you, both place are awesome. So this is just for me.
Weather wise, I will have to say that Haiti is just as hot as Taiwan, but Taiwan is more humid. You sweat either way so it’s whatever. The only difference is that in Haiti, there is no AC. In Taiwan, even though it’s hot, There is an air-conditioned room some where. The place where we are staying at is air-conditioned, so I will say that the only time we “sweat” is when we travel…which isn’t even that bad. The classes that we are teaching in also have AC so we are super blessed to have those things. We sleep on the floor with mats. I'm a side sleeper so I think I already have a bruise on my hip.

We eat like kings here, and we constantly eat. Food is cheap and good, I have only eaten one bad meal here. I love the breakfasts here and the boba is soooo good.

So far we have been preparing for the teaching. We have had a lot of down time to get over jet lag, and to prepare ourselves mentally. The first time mission trippers seem exhausted already. This will be interesting for them. Tomorrow is the first day of teaching so there will be no more afternoon naps and lazy afternoons. It’s crunch time.
Exhaustion, sickness, dreams, unforeseen circumstances; we have been under constant spiritual attack so pray for us! Pray that we don’t get lazy and that we don’t get sick of each other since we are around each other 24/7.
I’ve been getting to know Norman, Josh, and Isaac even more. It’s a good group of guys and we have our share of fun and mischief.

Photography wise, I've been looking for shots, but I haven't got much, it's been more documenting than anything. Literally everyone has a camera, so I don't even know why I pull mine out. I think i'm just going to pull out my camera if I see "the shot" something that is more meaningful than just "this is what I did" (I'm still going to document my food though). I'm just going to let all the girls do the documenting. This is the only photograph I'm really proud of. This was grabbed the first morning at about 7? This was before everyone woke up. Deacon Katy was just sitting there by herself praying and meditating. The light fell on her perfectly. I was in a groggy sleep state but I managed to snap a shot of it.

I'm going to taiwan in the matter of 6 hours. I haven't packed yet, but I have gathered all my stuff together. I will not be posting on this blog but on the STM Blog which is....

http://cccctaiwanstm.blogspot.com/

We also have a flikr which is

Anyways, off to pack...
No picture this post...sorry! If you want to see some pictures, go to the flikr!

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

I have not updated in awhile. You'd think that summer is a time of relaxing but it has been more busy than ever. With work? nope, sadly I'm still that poor college student with no work.

Anyways, I've been too busy with prepping for the Taiwan mission trip. Everything is happening so fast. We are leaving next thursday...wtf?! It sneaked up to me. so tricky, like isaac....
I will be bringing a camera there so expect a whole bunch of pictures. oh yes, which reminds me, our mission team has a blog. check it out http://cccctaiwanstm.blogspot.com/
all the pictures from the mission trip will be located on my flikr site. http://www.flickr.com/photos/victorhuang20/
There are some already up there. I decided that we should compile everyone's pictures to there so it's easier for people to access so all the pictures will be from everyone's cameras! yay!

Lately I have been letting people take pictures with my camera, yeah, it's dangerous because they could drop it or something, but hey! who gets to use a pro camera ever? so I thought I would post some of the pictures I liked.

First up is Elean Yang! She has an artistic eye for things! she could become a great photographer! Look at that first picture she took! The way the light is only highlighting the subject, wow! that really impressed me!
This is Anna's shot. I like it because i'm in it...haha! no, it's good because you get the two photographers in one shot. which you usually never get. AND ALSO wtheck, none of those two have cameras with them...how rare is that!? Nice...
This is Paul's shot. He's already a great photographer, just look at his work! http://www.flickr.com/photos/saygan1017/
I like this picture because he manages to include himself in the picture, see if you can find him! tricky...like isaac. Good pose anna...haha

Last but not least! Johnny's shot. The reason I like this shot is because it basically tells the story of Jeff and Anna's relationship! haha! The picture itself technically is ok, but because of the story it tells, it elevates everything and makes it a awesome picture!

Wow, what awesome photographers! You learn something new everyday. I def learned from each of them.

Success! First official wedding under my belt. Boy was it stressful. It was %100 for 12 hours. It was probably the most stressed I have ever been. There are no redos, so I was really nervous but once the shooting started, it was nonstop till the end of the reception. My feet and my calves were cramping by the end of it. As I was driving home I debated about not doing a wedding ever again. But looking at the images today made me realize that the pay off (the images) are worth it. It brought me so much joy to photograph the wedding. Anyways, so here are some of the images that I liked from the wedding. There are so many more pictures that I loved but I can only give you a sneak preview because I haven't even shown the bride and groom these pictures..O.o

Again with the busy weekends! sheesh. I'm was going full steam all weekend long, I don't know how I survived. Anyways! here is the rundown...pictures included of course...

I was running all around Columbus this weekend.
I finally visited COSI for the first time ever....for a shoot, I didn't even see the whole place. Sad...
But I got a picture of the president of Ohio State University. Dr. Gordon Gee. Sadly his natural face is....angry? haha. oh well, I like it, it's his dark side...O.o Well actually it's probably because the COSI shoot was at 9 am...gah so early.

I was so tired from the night before but right after going to COSI, I had to hurry to class....where I got bored and tired...haha the girl next to me is sleeping.
Anyways, moving onward to the evening, shot baseball for the second time. My favorite picture of that event was not even the baseball but of this shot...But here is a "sports" shot for you all to look at
Moving on to the next day, which was....saturday? yes, woke up early to go to worship practice. Then ran off to go shoot sofball where the girls went off to win against kentucky and go to the super regionals! yay!
Good for them, then ran over to go shoot track with my photo editor
Then went off to go help do fundraising....sigh..so busy, anyways, went home and started editing....didn't get done till like 2 in the morning
Which wasn't healthy because then I had to wake up early for 8:30 prayer and then do worship which ended up being awesome. I like doing worship with Jacqueline...she can sing! haha, and we both can harmonize to each other....love that. And yes...that is a microphone nun! hehe.
Oh yeah, if your wondering why I have a picture of Jacqueline is because this weekend I embarked on a challenge...a challenge of photo documenting my life for my final photo project. At the end of the weekend I had taken about 1800 pictures. It was so mentally draining to be constantly taking pictures. Anyways moving on, after church did fundraising and lunch. After that I ran off to meet with my editor and do another shoot. Then hurried off to Shing's relatives restaurant and had an awesome dinner in exchange for a family portrait. They wanted something simple so I just had them line up together. Meh, I could have done better, but oh well.
After dinner went over to easton and did a fun car shoot with shing and paul, which brings me to the picture of the week. This is one of my favorite pictures I have ever shot. It is classic....shing, creeper man, I didn't even try to get the shot, he just appeared in it haha. Anyways, Paul and I were thinking about doing this every sunday night or like ever other week. Basically we would do a shoot on Sunday evening and anyone can come and model or shoot. Bring your cameras and models will be available or if you want pictures, we can photograph you. Learn how to take photos and learn how to model. It would be fun and people can improve on their photography. It's a chance for everyone to learn! Anyways, enjoy!
